It is not uncommon to see exotic cars in the streets of Dubai. Dubai has a culture which craves the latest in automobile luxury. But what leads people to abandoned their seemingly in good shape vehicles any where from airport parking lots to, well…, just about any place in the city.
As it turns out when the economic times were good in Dubai, before the bubble hit, many ex-pats real estate investors who lived there were living the life. To keep up with their excessive lifestyles many bought luxury vehicles. No foreseeing any economic collapse, they failed to look ahead. So when the bubble hit, and Dubai fell in hard-times so did the investors.
You see in United Arab Emerites, defaulting in a financial loan of any type is a crime which can be severely punished. Fearing punishment by defaulting in any of their debt driven financial investments, they quickly fled the Country, leaving behind countless of luxury cars, anything from a mere Mercedes to a Ferrari Enzo (1 of only 400 ever made). Needless to say, the Dubai police department has confiscated many of these vehicles and resold them at auction prices.
