    This post give you a pretty good idea of why volume is important on our diets in order to prevent over eating.  All of these foods measure 200 calories but clearly not all offer the same benefits.  It is easier to feel fuller with 200 calories worth of broccoli than 200 calories worth of gummy bears.  In many cases, consuming foods low in volume is why people over eat.
